Portland, Maine: A Local Recommends

Portland, Maine. Visited on June 24, 2015

Got one day in Portland, Maine?

Not sure what to do?

Neither did we. To be honest, I kind of assumed I’d never actually go to Maine. Most of my travel is opportunist, meaning that for the most part I go where I know people or have business. I didn’t know anybody from Maine, and nobody I ever worked for had business in Maine.

But my wife, she knows people everywhere. Two of those people very generously leant us their home in Kennebunkport. So we found ourselves in Maine for a week, with time for a one-day trip to Portland.

We went to Allagash. We took the tour. If you stick with this blog long enough, it will be obvious why. After that, we didn’t have a plan, so we stopped at a bar downtown and asked the bartender, “What should we do?”

It kills me that I don’t remember the name of the place we stopped. Or the name of the bartender who wrote these recommendations. I know better. It’s just that I wanted a boundary between writing and respite.

When will I learn, there is no such thing?
