Reading at the Bowery Poetry Club

C. suggested we go to this open mic at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City. I came up for a couple days to hang out and watch him do stand-up. I thought it’d be cool to find someplace where I could read from the manuscript I’d just finished. They’re a bunch of prose-verse hybrids in the form of toasts.

So we went to Bowery Poetry Club, paid a few bucks to get in. The featured reader was Shay Alexi. I thought that was pretty cool since as a subscriber to the to the Glass Chapbook Series, I’d just finished reading her book, Diary of a Ghost Girl. She gave a great reading — I admire poets who have their poems memorized. I think it makes for a much better performance. After her set, it was open mic time. I read the piece, “A Toast to New Moles on Old Bodies.” I’m not going to publish it here because I’m still submitting it to journals, but it’s a part of this manuscript tentatively titled Antithetoasts.
